BLÜTHNER FACTORY VISIT

Piano News

In April 2019, the London Contemporary School of Piano was invited to visit the BLÜTHNER piano factory in Leipzig. The company, founded by Julius Blüthner in 1853 in Leipzig, remains a family run business.

By 1900, Blüthner had become the largest piano maker in Germany, producing around 5,000 instruments per year. More than 165 years later, the fifth generation of the family is watching over Julius’ legacy to build the finest, hand-crafted pianos available.

Our students had a great time watching the craftspeople at work and enjoyed playing the various instruments available, including Franz Liszt’s original Blüthner piano, which is over 100 years old yet still sounds wonderful.

Thank you to Christian Blüthner and his team for a wonderful welcome and a very informative visit.
